The beach itself is the primary attraction — three miles of Atlantic-facing sand with consistent surf, lifeguard patrols in season, and the Penhale Dunes at the southern end providing hours of dune-scrambling terrain. The dunes are part of a Special Area of Conservation and home to the rare sand lizard; the combination of wildlife, geography and general wildness makes them compelling for children in a way that few managed attractions can replicate. Walk south from the main beach access point and the crowds thin within a mile.

A family farm and outdoor centre three miles inland at Mitchell, Gear Farm runs seasonal children's activities including bottle-feeding lambs, tractor rides, and a small farmyard animal area. It's a practical option for families with toddlers who need a morning away from sand, or for wet days when the beach is genuinely inhospitable. The farm shop sells local produce and the café operates in season. Not a major attraction, but a useful addition to a Perranporth week for families with very young children.

At the northern end of Perranporth beach, Chapel Rock emerges from the sand at low tide and is surrounded by productive rock pools — anemones, hermit crabs, and blennies are reliable finds. The rock itself is climbable by older children and provides a vantage point over the beach that's naturally appealing. The northern end of the beach is calmer than the main surfing section and more suitable for very young children. At very low spring tides, the pools extend further and improve significantly.
